The collection consists of Etching Plates (67 steel and one plastic) created by True; Prints (19) made from the Etching Plates by the donor, undated; and Biographical Materials (copies) collected about True, 1915, 2005, and undated. The Plates vary in size, as do the Prints. Topics of the Plates include: people, ships, boats, docks, a lighthouse, trees, rural scences, and views of Venice (Italy). The prints are printed on rag paper and include etchings of ships, docks, Venice, and women. Most of the ships, boats, and dock views are of the Detroit River. One of the boat etching clearly shows the name of the boat "Handy boy" and its home port, "Detroit."

George A. True was born in Funchal, Madeira Island, in September 1863 or 1864. He was the son of George True, a U.S. Consul, and his wife, Susan (Laughrey) True. In 1889 George A. moved to Detroit (Mich.). According to the federal census for Michigan, George was married to Myrtle H? and worked as a mechanical engineer in 1900.
